A fence finish should be chosen for the material and condition in front of you, not only for a color sample. New boards, weathered sections and an existing coating can each affect the preparation and appearance. Keystone Handyman provides fence staining and sealing with those differences considered before the work is defined, so you understand the surface decisions as well as the finish you hope to see.
Staining or sealing is separate from repairing damaged fence components. If boards are split, connections are loose or a section needs replacement, those concerns should be addressed in the repair plan before treating the project as coating work alone. A fresh finish does not restore missing strength or make deteriorated material sound. We discuss the repair and finishing stages without assuming they can all happen during one visit.
The coating boundary is another important choice. You may want a repaired section finished, one accessible face treated, or a larger run considered for a more consistent appearance. Access, existing material and product requirements affect that scope. At the working visit, we review your goal, explain preparation and pricing, and obtain approval before work begins. No fixed lifespan or weather-performance result is promised.
For fence staining & sealing, the agreed work can include review of wood condition, existing coatings and the desired appearance; selection discussion for a suitable stain or sealer and defined coating area; specified surface preparation appropriate to the agreed product and material; application to the agreed faces and sections; handoff of product-specific use and care information relevant to the completed work. We confirm the included tasks, materials and price with you before work begins.
Questions about fence staining & sealing
Can staining repair damaged boards?
No. A finish changes the surface; damaged or unsuitable components need a separate repair decision before coating is treated as the complete job.
Can stain go over an existing painted finish?
That depends on the selected product and required preparation. Do not assume a stain can be applied directly over old paint to produce the desired appearance.
Will new and old boards look identical afterward?
Not necessarily. Their condition can affect how the finish appears. We discuss the coating boundary and reasonable appearance expectations before approval.
Are both sides included?
Only if both faces are part of the agreed work and access is arranged. Sections, gates and sides should be named explicitly in the scope.
Is pressure washing included?
No specific preparation method is automatic. The agreed preparation must suit the material and product; wood washing is not added to the scope by this page.
How long will the finish last?
No universal duration is guaranteed. The product, exposure, preparation and ongoing condition affect future upkeep; we can discuss the selected product’s care information.
