Exterior Door Installation & Replacement

Exterior door replacement illustration showing a worn door and a clean replacement in the same opening

Replacing an exterior door changes an entry you depend on every day. The door style matters, but so do the frame, threshold, hardware, and surfaces around the opening. Keystone Handyman provides exterior door installation and replacement with those parts considered together. Whether the existing door is damaged or you want a different appearance, the first decision is what can stay and what the new installation needs to include.

A door panel fitted to a suitable existing frame is a different project from replacing the door and frame as an assembly. Existing condition, product dimensions, swing, and the selected hardware affect that choice. A similar-looking replacement does not establish a direct fit. We review the actual opening before agreeing on materials, so the work is based on the entry you have rather than the product photograph alone.

Think about how you use the entry and the finish you expect when the work is complete. A changed threshold, exposed paint edge, or different casing profile may matter just as much as the door itself. During a working visit, we discuss these details, explain the scope and price, and ask for approval before starting. Required materials and the condition found can affect the installation sequence.

For exterior door installation & replacement, the agreed work can include review of the opening, visible frame condition, swing and selected door requirements; agreed removal and installation of the identified door or door-and-frame assembly; fitting of compatible agreed hardware and checks of normal opening, closure and latching; specified threshold, weatherstripping and surrounding finish work; clear identification of retained parts, disposal arrangements and any separately approved repairs. We confirm the included tasks, materials and price with you before work begins.

Questions about exterior door installation & replacement

Can the frame remain when the door is replaced?

Possibly, if its condition and fit suit the selected door. We compare that option with replacing the assembly and explain the different work and finish boundaries.

Can I reuse my current lock?

Its fit, condition, and compatibility with the selected door need checking. A lock that works on the current door is not automatically suitable for every replacement.

Does replacement include repainting the entry trim?

Only where agreed. Identify the trim and nearby surfaces you want finished so painting is included in the price rather than assumed.

What if damage is found behind the old frame?

We explain the additional condition and proposed work before proceeding beyond the approved scope. Concealed damage can affect materials and timing.

Will a new door fix every draft or leak near the entry?

No blanket result is promised. The door assembly and surrounding conditions need review; some problems may require work beyond the replacement itself.

Should I order a door before the visit?

You can discuss the opening and product options onsite first. If you already ordered one, its requirements still need checking before installation is confirmed.
