Gate Latch & Lock Installation

Gate latch installation illustration comparing worn hardware and a new fitted latch

A gate latch keeps the gate in its intended closed position, while a lock adds a particular access function. Those choices need to suit the gate, its receiving point and the people using it. Keystone Handyman provides gate latch and lock installation by considering the desired function and physical fit together, rather than assuming that a product with the right appearance will work on any opening.

The gate should reach the closing position properly before new hardware is treated as the solution. If it drags or hangs unevenly, supporting or alignment work may be needed separately. Mounting surfaces, clearance and the selected product’s requirements affect the installation. We discuss those conditions so the scope explains both the hardware being installed and any other work required for it to operate as intended.

Think about access from each side, the type of closure you want and whether you are replacing an existing fitting. Old holes or hardware outlines can affect the finished appearance. During the visit, we review the options, explain the scope and price, and ask for approval before work begins. Special-use or regulated gate requirements are not assumed to be satisfied by ordinary latch or lock installation.

For gate latch & lock installation, the agreed work can include review of the gate’s closing position and intended access function; compatibility discussion for the selected latch or lock and mounting surfaces; agreed removal of replaced hardware and fitting of suitable new components; checks of normal closure, release and the included locking function; specified repair of old mounting marks or finish areas where approved. We confirm the included tasks, materials and price with you before work begins.

Questions about gate latch & lock installation

Will a new latch fix a sagging gate?

Not necessarily. The gate must reach the closing position correctly. Alignment or supporting repairs may be needed before the new hardware can work as intended.

Can I operate the latch from both sides?

That depends on the product and installation arrangement. Explain the access you need so the selected hardware can be reviewed for that function.

Can the existing holes be reused?

Possibly, if their position and surrounding material suit the replacement. Different hardware can require a different footprint or separate repair.

Does a lock installation include rekeying?

No keying service should be assumed. Identify the requirement separately so the agreed work is clear before you choose hardware.

Does this make a pool gate compliant?

No compliance assessment or certification is established by this ordinary installation scope. Special-use requirements need separate consideration.

Is repair of the old hardware marks included?

Only when it is part of the approved work. We can discuss the visible marks and suitable finish arrangements before fitting the replacement.
